Dutchland Churns Tampa, 193-129

LANCASTER, PA – On February 20, the Dutchland Rollers’ All-Stars hosted the Tampa Bay Tantrums in a closed WFTDA-sanctioned bout; Dutchland came out on top 193-129. Dutchland (currently #10 in WFTDA East) most recently defeated DC (WFTDA East #9) by 28 points earlier this month, while Tampa (#6 in WFTDA South Central) had fallen to Charm City (WFTDA East #3) the previous evening by 35.

Tampa opened up the scoreboard on the first jam with Little A grabbing 3-0. Next up, Ruthless Ness (making her first appearance in sanctioned play for Dutchland) picked up 8-0. Dutchland’s Nash Villian continued to open up her team’s lead in jam 4 with 13-4 over Little A. Determined to keep the game close, Tampa’s Reese Tear Ya To Pieces and Sasha Haughtbich grabbed back to back 10 point jams. Dutchland’s Skid Ho was then able to capitalize with 14 points as Tampa players traded seats in the box. Tampa’s Rojo Grande came back and picked up 9 in the next jam, putting Tampa ahead 36-35. This would be the last time Tampa held the lead.

Over the next 5 jams, Dutchland led Tampa in scoring 22 to 11. In jam 13, Tampa’s Reese was able to get a 4-0 while her teammate, Leia Flat, did just that to Dutchland jammer Ruthless Ness. Tampa’s resurgence over the next few jams held the home team scoreless as they closed the gap, bringing the score 57-53. However, 8 unanswered points by White Thrash, followed by a devastating 21 point jam by Ruthless Ness quickly diminished Tampa’s attempt to regain the lead, Dutchland finished the half strong 105-68.

The second half started out promising for Tampa as Dutchland’s Skid Ho was sent to the box; thier blockers controlled the pack speed and allowed for Sasha Haughtbich to pick up 10. Once again, Tampa moved closer as they held Dutchland scoreless for 2 jams, taking 9 more points and closing the gap to 112-87. However, this did not last long ,Tampa blockers again rotated to the box in jam 4 enabling Dutchland’s White Thrash to pick up 20-0, followed up with 12 more by teammate, Twisted Scizzors. Flirtin with Disaster picked up 14 points for Tampa in the next jam, but Dutchland’s lead now appeared difficult to erase at 159-103. The remainder of the game saw small scoring efforts by both teams with quick ‘hit and quit’ jams. Renegade Raven was able to pick up one more big jam for Dutchland, 18-2 over Tampa’s Lunch Lady. Interestingly, Tampa was able to pick up lead jammer in the final 8 jams, but they could not contain Dutchland’s strong lead, ending the game 193-129 in Dutchland’s favor.

Up next, Dutchland hosts Atlanta on March 12 while Tampa will see action during their Franky Panky tournament March 5th and 6th.
