What brought you to DDR?
I had found out about derby while in graduate school, but with little time and money, couldn’t pursue it then. When I moved to Lancaster, I saw one bout and was hooked, I tried out as soon as I could.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
It’s aggressive, but it’s smart. You have to use your head just as much as your body to excel. And that’s a pretty fun challenge.
What do you love about Dutchland?
The community. These folks have been shown me what true friendship is and I’m pretty lucky to hang out with so many fun and interesting people on the regular.
What is your favorite Derby Story?
That time I proposed (November 2014) and EVERYONE kept it a secret for months. See, community!
What is your most embarrassing derby moment?
Whenever I get hit so hard or fall so hard that snot comes out of my nose.
What is your proudest derby moment?
Winning MVP for the Blitz at the 2014 awards night. It means something to be voted MVP by your teammates that nothing else can come close to.
What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
Cross train! Do not just roller skate. Practices are tough and great exercise, but if you want to make your game better, you have to be more fit.
What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
Confidence. I didn’t like myself very much before derby, and I most certainly feel better about what I can do and what my body can achieve.
Anything you'd like to say to your adoring fans?
I hope you’re having as much fun as we are!
