Breakin’ hearts and Breakin’ Necks

When did you start playing Roller Derby?
I passed try outs mid-2006 and was rostered to one of the three home teams, the Hex Offenders, in 2007.
What positions do you normally play/like to play?
I’ve played all positions in my 11 years as a skater, but I think I’m most effective as a blocker.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
Roller derby has provided me with a way challenge myself to grow mentally and physically. This sport has taught me how to be dedicated and has shown me that with determination and hard work I can achieve goals that I may not have thought attainable.
What you love about Dutchland?
I love all the individuals that bring their unique skills together to run an organization that encompasses athleticism, respects people of all backgrounds, regularly engages in volunteerism and community outreach, and is also a successful non-profit.
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
My favorite derby moment is always when I achieve a goal I have been working on, whether it's getting in an extra lap or improving some other skating skill. The moment when you realize all your hard work has paid off is very rewarding.
Dutchland’s 2018 season is just around the corner, and it’s looking good! What are you looking forward to in this season?
In the 2018 season, I am looking forward to growing and developing my skills as an individual skater and to be the best teammate I can for my fellow skaters.
What is one piece of advice you would give to anybody thinking about joining Roller Derby?
Roller derby is one of the best ways to surprise yourself with abilities and talents that you may not know you even have. It can be tough at times, but the satisfaction you feel when you reach and exceed goals makes it all worth it.
What is one thing Dutchland/Roller Derby has helped you achieve?
Roller derby has helped me reach levels of physical and mental strength that I never thought possible and has also allowed to meet some wonderful human beings.
