When did you start playing Roller Derby?
April 2012
Best Position?
Jammer
What brought you to DDR?
I wanted to compete at a high level and improve my skills as a skater. And transferring to DDR has been made me push and challenge myself at each practice. I also want to be able to travel and go to tournaments.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
Friendship. The feeling you get, after a bad day, when you put on your skates and you have your friends around to make that bad day go away.
What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
Self confidence, strength, beefcake status and friendships.
What do you love about Dutchland?
That we can all just be silly and still be challenged to better ourselves as players and as teammates at the same time.
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
Transferring to Dutchland.
What is your most embarrassing derby moment?
Breaking the my skate mid-jam during a bout, getting a penalty, going to the box with my broken skate. The photographer at the bout gave up his skate for me so that I would be able to finish out the jam. It was the most awkward lap of my life so far.
What is your proudest derby moment?
As of right now, the decision to start skating in the first place.
Got any injury stories?
Unfortunately yes. Third Bout of the of the 2013 season and I so gracefully fell all by myself while jamming, and got to be strapped to a backboard a take a ride in the ambulance. They cut my knee gasket off, which I had worn twice and my leggings! However, I did get MVP for the bout, so it wasn't all bad.
Derby props?
Skates: White Bont Hybrids (They make my feet happy!)
Wheels: Juice, Appletini
Protective Gear: S1 Helmet, 187 Pads, gross mouth guard
Must-haves: Towel, somehow I get mad puddle sweat in my ears.
What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
JUST DO IT! What is there to lose? I never skated before joining in 2012. It's amazing how quickly your feet and body adjust to being on wheels. Plus you meet and create awesome friendships.
What has Roller Derby taught you?
Be the best you, be yourself.
Anything you'd like to say to your adoring fans?
Keep being awesome! We love you all for the support.
