When did you start playing Roller Derby?
What positions do you normally play/like to play?
Block and Jam. I have been finding the jammer in me more recently.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
The challenge is amazing and the people. This sport is filled with so many admirable people it is great to be surrounded by them. I always think, "how did I not discover the world of derby sooner?"
What do you love about Dutchland?
The encouragement and acceptance is so welcoming among teammates. The passion for derby is an amazing feeling. So many people put so much of themselves into this league on and off the track. It is great to be a part of that!
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
Hearing the voices of my friends and family in the crowd as I skate! It is so encouraging!
What is your most embarrassing derby moment?
Face planting when jamming - it was humid and the floor was slick. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! lol
What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
It is the most challenging and rewarding thing I have ever done. Don't discourage yourself. Every failure is an opportunity to succeed. Go show yourself how far you have come. Oh socks - always have the correct socks.
What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
I am constantly growing as a skater and player, and every practice contributes to that. I definitely have more confidence in my skills and I have improved my health physically beyond what I ever expected.
What has Roller Derby taught you?
Hard work pays off. Sounds simple I know but it feels so empowering to see what you have accomplished by applying yourself. Some days are hard, so days are almost impossible but the more you try the more you succeed.
Anything you'd like to say to your adoring fans?
It means so much to be supported. Hearing someone you don't even know yell and cheer for you is so humbling. We have amazing fans and truly appreciate all of them. See you all next season!
