When did you start playing Roller Derby?
I joined the league in January of this year, but I started in the tot program in July 2013. I spent some extra time as a tot because I wasn't allowed to do contact for over a year since I was off my skates for a while.
What positions do you normally play/like to play?
I am a defensive blocker and cover the middle of the track.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
I love that there's always something that you can work towards and challenge yourself with whether it's a new drill, better teamwork, or just overall better performance.
What do you love about Dutchland?
I love that everyone is encouraging, both on and off the track.
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
There are too many to pick one, but I did get very happy when I heard my name announced in a game because I did something good!
Most embarrassing Roller Derby moment?
Sometimes I fall down without anyone even touching me, but that happens to everyone, right?
What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
Definitely do it. No matter how scary derby seems, it's definitely worth it.
What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
I was terrified of going to practice for about a year. Everyone was nice, I always had fun, but I was extremely anxious the entire time. I'm so glad that I was able to decide that derby was something that I wanted to do and was able to keep going. I feel that skill has definitely carried over to my non-derby life.
What has Roller Derby taught you?
I've definitely learned to take myself less seriously.
Anything you'd like to say to your adoring fans?
Thanks so much!
