Join Date?
I started skating in November 2009 with Reno Roller Girls, in July 2010 I transferred to Battle Born Derby Demons (also in Reno) I joined Dutchland in September 2011
First bout?
March 2010, intramural bout with RRG; First inter league bout was with BBDD in August of 2010, and first Dutchland bout will be in November 2011
Best position?
I think I do best as an offensive blocker or partner to the pivot.
What brought you to DDR?
Well I got a job offer at Kutztown University. Before I even interviewed I made sure there was good roller derby in the area though!
What keeps your wheels turning?
Roller derby is the most fun thing I have ever done, and I look forward to every single practice. People told me that would wear off after the first year but it’s been 3 and it still hasn’t!
What is your most embarrassing derby moment?
The first time I ever played an inter league bout, I was jamming and the fourth whistle blew and I kept skating for quite a while after that and the announcer was like “and it looks like Hellody is just going to keep skating…”.
What is your proudest derby moment?
For a long time after I started, it looked like I would be hopeless as a blocker. I would hit people and they would laugh. I spent a lot of time working on my blocking and hitting with various people outside of practice and eventually my weakest point became one of my strongest. The first time I ever took out a strong jammer with a huge hit at a bout and shocked some people, I was pretty pleased with myself!
DDR Awards/ Fan Favorite Awards?
No DDR awards, but when I was with BBDD I’ve won Crowd Favorite and Roughest Tough Girl
Got any injury stories?
I pulled my IT band after my first interleague bout and it took a year to really heal properly
Impress us with your skating skillz…
I can do a waltz jump on roller skates. Well, kind of. I’m still better on ice!
Derby Props?
Skates: Riedell 595
Wheels: Atom jukes 2.0
Protective Gear: Pain Cheaters knee pads, these are the BEST, I used to play on concrete and these saved my knees
Must haves: Duct tape
Send out some heartfelt derby love to your peeps…
Thanks to my friends on my old league, Battle Born Derby Demons, for both teaching me how to play roller derby and also teaching me what it means to be part of a team, especially Team Good Time. XOXO Thanks to everyone at DDR for being so accepting and nice from the beginning, I am so privileged to be part of this league, and am excited about the opportunity to skate with you all!
