When did you start playing Roller Derby?
I started the tots program last May, and could officially start playing in games in Sept.
What positions do you normally play/like to play?
I am a blocker; maybe moving to being the anchor would be my next goal.
What do you love about Roller Derby?
There is a place for everyone in this sport.
What do you love about Dutchland?
When you join Dutchland, you truly join a team that really supports each other.
Favorite Roller Derby moment?
I was just rostered this year with the Blitz team, and I can say our first win of the season in Connecticut was the best feeling. All the work that the team put in made that win feel amazing.
Most embarrassing Roller Derby moment?
I unintentionally low blocked a skater on the other team and my hand flew up to my mouth as I realized what I had done and how far she flew. Our wonderful photographer caught that moment so there is a photo of me looking both surprised and guilty as I am getting a penalty.
What is one piece of advice you could give to newer girls or those who are thinking about joining Roller Derby?
It is hard. You have to put a lot of work into it, but the rewards that you get from it are so amazing (more self-confidence, a support network, inner and outer strength just to name a few).
What is one thing that Roller Derby/Dutchland helped you achieve?
I feel so much stronger physically and emotionally. It is a huge outlet that I have that I don’t have to worry about anything but trying to be my best.
What has Roller Derby taught you?
You really need to rely on your teammates. You can’t do it all yourself, and I think that lesson can be applied to a lot of life. Yell for your friends when you need help.
