What brought you to DDR?
I decided to step down from my positions with my former league and went back to school. My girlfriend was skating with Dutchland at the time. I used to go to practice with her, and try to do my homework in the corner. I would try not to watch, but I couldn't help but yell out direction, from the sidelines. I noticed how eager the girls were to learn and couldn't help but give them all I had to offer. As it turned out, these awesome, driven ladies, and my aggressive, no-nonsense style fit perfectly together. It was an accident that I ended up at DDR, but there is nowhere else I would rather be.
How many years have you been coaching Derby?
3 years with Harrisburg Area Roller Derby and this is season 2 with Dutchland.
Do you have any Faults?
Sometimes I can be a little "long winded" as you are about to find out.
What is your proudest Derby moment?
When I first came to Dutchland, I promised the girls they could make the top 25 with hard work. I often work out of town with no internet access. My most memorable moment (as of now) is the phone call from Renagade Raven, informing me that DNN's March Power Rankings were just released, and we have reached their 25 spot. I admit, I was a little choked up (thanks DNN). It is nice to know that extreme torture I put the ladies through, payed off for them.
Tell us a little about your skates...
I wear Oberheimer 351 with Sure-grip Marathon plates. Yes these are the same boots and plates that I bought at Olympic Skating Center in 1985. I use bones swiss mounted in Radar Mojos (Thanks Mr. Brian Wertz). My outdoor setup is, again from the 80s, a pair of baby blue Riedel 395 redlines, Lebeda Pro-lines with Bones Super Reds and Hyper Rollo wheels.
What are your likes and dislikes?
I like a Derby girl who plays with heart. I like long walks on the beach. I dislike a lazy skater and really dislike onions.
